Oruro is the northern head of the Ferroviaria Andina passenger corridor and the starting point of the Expreso del Sur – Ferrobús, the only passenger train running south on the line today. It leaves once a week, on Monday at 21:30, and the northbound service arrives on Friday at 07:55.
From here the train crosses the Altiplano towards Uyuni, Atocha, Tupiza and the Argentine border at Villazón. Oruro is also famous for its Carnival, recognised by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. The city has good bus links to La Paz, Cochabamba and Potosí.
