Oruro Station

Oruro is the northern head of the Ferroviaria Andina passenger network and the point where the two southern trains begin their journey: the Expreso del Sur and the Wara Wara del Sur. Its station, high on the Altiplano at over 3,700 m, is one of the most emblematic in the country.

From here the trains head south across the Altiplano towards Uyuni, Tupiza and the Argentine border at Villazón. Oruro is also famous for its Carnival, recognised by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. The city has good bus links to La Paz, Cochabamba and Potosí, making it the natural gateway to the train journey.
