What this site is

trenbolivia.com is an independent guide to the passenger train in southern Bolivia, the Oruro–Uyuni–Tupiza–Villazón corridor run by the Empresa Ferroviaria Andina (FCA). It is not Ferroviaria Andina’s website: we do not sell tickets, we cannot make bookings and we cannot resolve anything about your journey. Tickets are sold at the station ticket office or online through Tickets Bolivia.

What we do is put in one place the timetable, the fares, the stations, a map, a trip planner and guides to reaching the Salar de Uyuni, Tupiza or the Argentine border by train, in Spanish and in English. Ferroviaria Andina also runs other passenger services — the Buscarril and a monthly tourist train; this site concentrates on the southern corridor.

What the October 2026 review found: the train we described no longer runs

It is the worst mistake a timetable site can make, and it was ours. The site was built in June 2026 describing two trains: the Expreso del Sur on Tuesdays and Fridays and the Wara Wara del Sur on Wednesdays and Sundays, with twelve stations, Ejecutivo, Salón and Popular classes and fares from Bs 20 to Bs 170. And it presented all of that as current.

It was not. Ferroviaria Andina suspended both trains in 2021. When passenger service came back on 23 June 2025, it came back as a Ferrobús — the “Expreso del Sur – Ferrobús” — and the Wara Wara has not returned. Today the operator’s own passenger menu offers only the Ferrobús, the Buscarril and the tourist train.

What actually runs is one departure a week in each direction: Monday at 21:30 from Oruro, arriving in Villazón on Tuesday at 16:30, and Thursday at 14:30 from Villazón, arriving in Oruro on Friday at 07:55. It calls at five stations — Oruro, Uyuni, Atocha, Tupiza and Villazón — and has a single fare per leg, with no classes: Oruro–Uyuni Bs 60, Uyuni–Atocha Bs 22, Atocha–Tupiza Bs 25 and Tupiza–Villazón Bs 25.

What we changed

Everything that depended on the old model: the timetable, the fares, the map, the trip planner, the station pages and the guides, in both languages. Río Mulato and the six Altiplano stations where only the Wara Wara used to stop — Machacamarca, Poopó, Pazña, Challapata, Huari and Sevaruyo — have no passenger train at all today, and we would rather say so than keep publishing a timetable for them.

Anything that looked like live information is gone too. A panel on the home page showed “normal service” for a train that has not run since 2021, worked out from nothing but our own timetable. That is not a service status; it is a guess dressed up as data.

Nothing here is real time

Ferroviaria Andina does not publish open data or a timetable API, so everything you see here is the published timetable, not where the train is. If a journey is delayed or cancelled, this site will not know before you do: check at the ticket office or when you buy your ticket.

Where each fact comes from

Ferrobús timetable, stops and fares: what Ferroviaria Andina publishes for the service, checked on 10 October 2026.

Ticket sales and sales points: Tickets Bolivia, the platform Ferroviaria Andina itself uses to sell online.

The 2021 suspension and the June 2025 return: the operator’s passenger menu and the railway press of the time (Crónica Ferroviaria, June 2025), which also reports that a return of the Wara Wara or the traditional Expreso del Sur is not planned for now.

Station locations: checked against OpenStreetMap.

US dollars: an approximate conversion at 1 USD ≈ 6.96 Bs, and the pages say so.

The map and the destination guides: our own work. The map is a diagram we drew, not an official plan.

Photographs: from Wikimedia Commons, with the attribution each licence requires.

When we get it wrong

We fix it and we say what was fixed — this page is the example, and not a small one: for its first months this site described a service that no longer existed. If you spot a timetable, a fare or a station that does not add up, write to [email protected]: it is the quickest way to get it fixed.

Who is behind this site

This site is run by the team at GoRandom, a small group based in the Basque Country in Spain who do two things that go together better than they sound: travel, and build websites.

Bolivia is not yet one of the places we have been to — we are up to twenty cities and we move slowly. We would rather say so than pretend otherwise: what you read here does not come from our memories, it comes from what Ferroviaria Andina publishes and from checking work we can show you.

The other half of what we know how to do is web development, and this site is the excuse to put the two together. We do not leave it sitting there: every fare and every timetable carries its source and the date we checked it, and they get revised when the operator changes something. The last thorough revision was on 10 October 2026, and it meant rewriting the whole site: the Wara Wara del Sur has been suspended since 2021, as has the old Expreso del Sur, and the only train on the corridor today, since June 2025, is the Expreso del Sur Ferrobús, with one departure a week in each direction. Timetables, fares, stops and the route planner now follow what Ferroviaria Andina publishes.
