Poopó Station

Poopó (Villa Poopó) is a mining town in the south of Oruro department, historically tied to tin and silver mining, which gives its name to Lake Poopó.

It was a stop of the Wara Wara del Sur, the train that called at every station on the corridor, but that service has been suspended since 2021 and no return has been announced. There is no passenger train at Poopó today: the Expreso del Sur – Ferrobús, the only train running since June 2025, stops only at Oruro, Uyuni, Atocha, Tupiza and Villazón. The nearest station with a train is Oruro.
