Poopó (Villa Poopó) is a mining town in southern Oruro, historically tied to tin and silver mining. The station is served by the Wara Wara del Sur on its journey across the Altiplano.
The town gives its name to Lake Poopó, once the second largest lake in Bolivia. The stop links the mining and farming communities of the area with Oruro to the north and the rest of the corridor to the south.
